“A doula is a guiding light, empowering women on their journey of birth.”
A doula is a trained birth professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals and families throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. Doulas do not provide medical care; instead, they focus on offering comfort, guidance, advocacy, and education in both hospital and non-hospital birth settings.
Although doulas and midwives often work closely together, their roles are different. A midwife is a licensed healthcare professional who provides medical care for both the birthing person and baby during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum recovery. Doulas complement the care provided by midwives, doctors, and nurses by ensuring families receive personalized support and encouragement throughout their childbirth journey. Together, these professionals help create a well-rounded and supportive birth experience.
